Fancy rubbing shoulders with the great and the good in the Ubuntu community, learning new things, seeing cool demos, and perhaps getting a bit merry with your fellow geeks?

If so, make a date to attend the Ubuntu Summit, which this year is being held in The Hague, the Netherlands, from October 25-27th, at The World Forum convention centre.

As always, the Ubuntu Summit is free to attend (though you do need to register).

Since returning in 2022, the in-person Ubuntu Summit has helped revive the spirit, camaraderie, and general joie de vivre much beloved of the original Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS) — last held in 2012, how time flies!

But the Ubuntu Summit isn’t a (only) a place for Ubuntu’s core devs to talk shop, code crunch, sprint to meet deadlines, and debug developments in real time, in-person.

Canonical’s decision to drop ‘developer’ from the title was a conscious one, aimed at broadening the appeal of the event. Now, anyone with a passing interest in invited – from regular users to community devs, app makers, artists, and beyond.

An eclectic group of people from all walks of life, differing talents, and varying opinions able to network, chill, and learn from each other, brought together by a passion for Ubuntu (and open-source in general).

Talks underpin the event, with presentations from Canonical and Ubuntu developers, general open-source projects and devs, and even external companies (Microsoft attended last year). The talks generate discussion, provide inspiration, and foster innovation.

Booths, a staple at many other open-source conferences, are coming to Ubuntu Summit 2024. These won’t be sales booths per so, more promo ops: an informative way for projects to demo the things they’re working on to attendees to gather feedback, etc.

More details on Ubuntu Summit 2024 are due to be revealed in the coming weeks. Registration will (presumably) open soon too – so I’ll keep you posted!
