The Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS release is now available to download.
Serving as the second point release in the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS series, this update rolls together the many security patches, bug fixes, and software updates issued to the Jammy Jellyfish since the previous point release.
More notably, Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS intros a brand new hardware enablement stack (HWE) composed of a newer Linux kernel and updated Linux graphics drivers.
Whenever I write about a point release I like to reiterate their point: they’re not aimed at folks already using Ubuntu but rather those who want to. These periodically issued ISOs massively reduce the ‘update delta’ a user needs to download and install after installing their system anew.
This is actually the first of two point releases planned this year. Ubuntu 22.04.3 is set to make an appearance in late summer and, as well as package updates issued between now and then, come with the Linux kernel used in the upcoming Ubuntu 23.04 release.
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS includes Linux kernel 5.19, Mesa 22.2.5 and libdrm 2.4.113. A swathe of packages updates are also bundled including GNOME Shell 42.5, LibreOffice 7.3.7.2, and Mozilla Firefox 110.

As a reminder, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is supported until April 2027, with support beyond that provided through Ubuntu ESM and/or Ubuntu Pro.

If you already use Ubuntu 22.04 LTS you don’t need to “do” anything because, as long as you have installed all available updates provided, you “have” Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS.
