The latest monthly update to the Papirus icon theme for Linux desktops is now rolling out.

Building on July’s impressive haul, developers introduce more than 45 new and updated icons in the latest refresh, including new icons for a couple of apps recently featured here on the blog, including the powerful GTK audio metadata editor Tagger, and the long-awaited Plex Desktop Linux client.

Papirus is by far one of the most comprehensive best icon sets for Ubuntu and other Linux distributions. It provides coverage for all sorts of software, from established open source tools to niche proprietary apps and games.

New in Paprius’ August update is an icon for the GNOME Crosswords app, a tray icon for Franz fork Ferdium, the convergent KDE podcast app Kasts, and BlueBubbles (an open source attempt to make Apple’s iMessage work on non-Apple platforms).

Icons are also included for closed-source calendaring app Morgen, to-do utility TickTick, time-tracking tool Clockify, and the ‘radically unique’ video calling service Around, and (of note to non-Ubuntu users) nifty Manjaro/Arch-focused Toolbox.

Paprius’ also levels up gaming coverage with new glyphs for Veloren game launcher Airshipper, the Minecraft Bedrock Launcher, versatile Vita3K emulator, and the Diablo-inspired 2D action RPG Flare.

There are updated icons for Vaults, YouTube aid Tubefeeder, Apple Music client Cider, and GTK HackerNews client Hackgregator.

Papirus is free, open source icon theme available for most major Linux distributions. You can install Papirus on Ubuntu from a PPA, or grab the source code from GitHub to install it elsewhere.

Sending support

I couldn’t cover another Paprius update with mentioning the fact that SmarFinn, a core contributor to the set, is based in Ukraine. Through Github messages shared a few weeks ago, they report they are alive but understandably enduring colossal hardships and unable to contribute. I want to say to SmarFinn (and to all open source contributors caught up in the conflict) that my thoughts are with them, and I, like most of the world, hope they and their families and friends remain safe, and that peace comes swift.
