The Free Culture Showcase for Ubuntu 11.04 will look, sound and feel a little bit different.
Speaking on the Ubuntu Art mailing list Ubuntu’s Thorsten Wilms has spoke of several interesting changes to the way the selections for the FCS are made in the Natty cycle.
“We would like to have a common theme for the next round. Ideally one that can be seen as an expression of at least one of the virtues and goals of Free Software and Ubuntu”
“Ivanka [Majic, Ubuntu Design team lead] will organise judging by professionals, for neutrality and high standards. This will improve the chances of being taken seriously and of receiving recognition by the “outside world”.”
What is the Free Culture Showcase? From the wiki: –
“The Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase is an opportunity to show off high quality free culture content in Ubuntu. At the heart of Ubuntu’s ethos is a belief in showcasing free software and free culture, and with each development cycle we open the opportunity for any artist to put their work in front of millions of Ubuntu users around the world.”

- Feb 14th: contest closed
- March 7th: Shortlist Complete
- March 21th: Judging Complete
